I started the morning by sitting with PreK and Kindergarten students at Mass. Now I don’t know how many of you have had the privilege of sitting with 20, 4 and 5 year olds at Mass, but it is completely draining and inspirational at the same time. Today for example, we had several that had to use the restroom, some that couldn’t sit still for the world, and others that just had to keep talking. But then again how do you reprimand a kid who’s asking if Jesus is in the blood? That say, “I hear Jesus!” when Father announces the opening song. And at the final blessing, when you are praising God for surviving another Friday Mass with his little children, have a student shout out as we kneel for a final prayer, “Goodbye Jesus!” Oh what we learn from His children! And how pure and open their hearts are to Him! |

School News September 8, 2008 T-Shirt Day
Friday, September 12, is our 1st Holy Name T-Shirt Day. Students may wear their Holy Name t-shirt with blue jeans, their uniform pants, uniform shorts, or uniform skirt. Other pants, colored jeans, capris, shorts, etc. are not to be worn. T-Shirts are available Monday through Thursday at the office for $10.00 each. We have adult sizes as well. Catalog Orders Due Catalog orders were due today. Please send yours with your child Tuesday morning if you haven’t done so already. Every family needs to turn in an order sheet so we don’t have any orders out there that we don’t know about and miss turning in to the company. Children’s Choir (3rd-6th Grade) Sunday, September 14, is our first children’s choir. This is a requirement for all students in 3rd-6th grade, and they do receive a grade for their attendance. If your child is unable to attend I need a note, email, or phone call from the parent to make their grade excused. This means that while they don’t receive points, (as this would not be fair to the students participating), they will not receive a zero either. Your child (or you) may request that he/she receive an additional assignment to make up for the points missed at Sunday Choir. This will generally be a report. If your child misses Sunday Choir, and does not bring a note he/she will receive a zero. Students are to meet in the choir loft no later than 10:20 am. Friday Set-up (5th-6th Grade) I am going to need the help of any available 5th & 6th graders Friday after school. We need to move all of the desks, etc into the Kindergarten room and cover the bookshelves in the classrooms with paper. This is in preparation for the Craft Fair on Saturday. Any parents wanting to help are welcome as well. I don’t think it will take very long – 30 minutes at the most, if most are available to stay. Website I encourage parents to visit the church/school website often at www.holynamewinfield.org We will do our best to post notes, information, calendar events, etc on a regular basis. You may also download the lunch menu, church bulletin, etc from here. We have posted pictures from the 1st Day of School for K and PreK, as well as pics from our Open House. We hope to have a guestbook and alumni page available in the near future. Field Trip September 16 (1st-6th Grades) Tuesday, September 16th, 1st through 6th graders will be going to Baden Square for the Walnut Valley Mini-Music Fest. They will leave around 12:00 pm and be back before 2:00 pm. If you do NOT want your child to attend you must notify the school by that morning. USD 465 will be transporting our students via school bus. |

What a terrific day we had! It sure was great seeing all the children coming in with their smiles anxious for the start of another school year. We did have a few nervous students (and parents) starting school for the very first time, but with a little TLC from their teacher, Miss Groom, they were settled in in no time. Each classroom welcomed in at least one new student to Holy Name. We are very glad to have them as part of our family. We have two new teachers this year as well, Mrs. Kuchar and Mrs. Gray. If you didn't come in this morning with your child to meet them feel free to do so in the next couple of weeks. Also, I'd like to remind parents that this will be a very long, tiring week. We are jumping in with both feet this year. We don't usually start school with a full week of whole days. Don't be surprised if your child becomes moody and a little on the crabby side as we get to the end of the week. It doesn't mean things aren't going well at school, just that they are trying to adapt to a new schedule and change in sleep habits. Help them by giving them quiet time in the evening and an earlier bed time. One idea would be to have them read, look at a picture book, color, or listen to relaxing music about 30 minutes before their normal bedtime. If you have any concerns or questions please feel free to call or stop in. Also, I don't mind the occasional phone call at home. I would much rather have a parent call than stress or stew over something. We have enough stress in our lives these days. If I can help please call. We are looking forward to a wonderful school year. Thank you for allowing us the privilege of working with you and your child(ren). And welcome to our family! |
